The Poet Tree in Me
By Lorraine A. Vail
Dance the gumbo-limbo in me.
tango of twisted limbs, red peeling trunk,
stiletto dip and turn.
Ravage the cabbage palm in me.
Cleavage in silk, eyes inflame passion,
the sweet papaya in me.
You bring out the poet tree in me.
Lip-luscious juice, the mango in me
green skin ripening on succulent fruit,
the sea grape wine in me.
Massage the red mangrove in me,
tease and please. Carve my wicked heart.
Tickle the tart lime in me.
You bring out the poet tree in me.
Savor pink flesh of grapefruit in me,
Stroke smooth skin under moonlight,
sting the mortal sin in me.
Pleasure cypress limbs in me.
Surrender sacred palm.
Cling closer, safe under my canopy,
you bring out the poet tree in me.
Cry the beloved banyan in me,
Release Socrates under acacia tree.
Calm the areca palm.
Abandon the jacaranda travesty.
Ageless rings circle inside of me,
home in my lacy leaves.
Tempt the Adam and Eve in me.
You bring out the poetry in me.
